Midnight Ramblings

Today's score on a scale of 1 to 100: 1

I did have some fun this evening reviewing the quadratic formula with one of my students, as well as a factoring a variety of equations. (Raising my score to a much-better 25 out of 100!) Tomorrow I am teaching

y = mx + b

as a linear equation for graphing. We will also look at the equation of a parabola

y = a(x - h)Y + k
(where Y= squared)

and a circle

(x-h)Y + (y-k)Y = r Y
(where Y= squared)

just for a little bit of a stretch (which makes the linear equation look like a piece of cake!).

[By the way, Rich, I found my squared symbol, but couldn't get it to work here. Any suggestions? Thanks)

This weekend Barry and I hope to see everybody at Greg's play and celebrate Janet's birthday, then hunker down in Nevada City to sand, caulk, and paint the front porch of the house, as well as finish up the porch steps and put on the final coats of paint. (Blue for the house, gray for the porch and steps.)

Interestingly, the house no longer agitates along with the washing machine when I wash towels or jeans...I kind of miss the gentle chiming of the grandfather clock as the house shook.

It turns out that when the kitchen, laundry room, and downstairs bathroom were added in the 1920's, the builders never put a beam across the basement. Instead, they put pieces of a beam on the supports -- but they were not connected. Amazing.

Anyway, now the house is nicely tied together -- and most of the cast iron piping is gone and replaced by brand new pipes -- with much-improved water pressure as the bonus!

Good Night, All. It's 1:01 am and time for some zzzzzzz's.

PS Mom, more bloggy foolishness, please!
(Maybe another adventure with your siblings?)

WAAA... I would only hope that one is high and 100 is low on your scale... hang in there!

Try ...
² for squared²
² for cubed³
